It's 2024 and I'm starting again to Blog :o

A late start March 2, 2024 but it's taken me this long in the year to realize that's what I'm supposed to do ...

I'm using my HOPE (HP) laptop that my sweetie gave to me.  We bought it for himself and he quickly  changed his mind.  I didn't use her right away, since I was accustomed to using my Della (Dell) as she has a d drive for CD's and DVD's...

It's hard for me to try to move away from the familiar, the things I'm used to.  This keyboard does funky things--I guess it's a setting I don't know how to set...?

MAY DAY IS LEI DAY IN HAWAII!

It's MAY DAY!  LEI DAY IN HAWAII!!!  2022

I always loved May Day in school.  The preparation and practice for the dances we did, the new (maybe) muu muu I might get; the songs we would sing and the program where we would perform with our friends for our parents and community.  The fragrance of flowers, leis, the reprieve from school work... happy, carefree days.

2022! Year of the Tiger!

So a year has gone by since my last post ๐Ÿ˜‰but that's okay, it's a New Year with new opportunities and ways to 'get caught up'.

Maybe first I should look back to review & recap some about 2020 and 2021 to see where I/we've been.

As years go, 2019 ended great we had our newest granddaughter Kyle Kanoemakalii Rocheleau born in August.  My word for the year was DECLARE.

We looked forward in 2020 to multiple events: our 50th anniversary in August; Austin's graduation in May from my alma mater, Leilehua!  So proud that he led the band at the 2018 graduation when my classmates from Class of '68 (50 years) walked with the graduates of that year; my 70th birthday in November; maybe a class reunion? cause we like to get together; holidays where we did certain things, ate certain foods, saw and hugged certain faces...

Just finished playing with the emojis on this blogspot.  Fun!

Grateful to find that Focus on the Family video today, Monday, January 4, 2021 as I begin my new journey of getting organized, removing or finding potential no longer useful stuff that have crowded my nooks & crannies.  It is with eyes opened by the Creator of All that I now see beyond the obvious natural things-- now with supernatural vision (given by God)   It's so energizing!

Working on rearranging my desk area for productivity and practicality.  It starts with one thing.  Moved the computer to the side and then put the displaced bulletin board on the wall.  Removed the small bulletin board which leaves me a nice space to have my guy make a custom to fit shelf for whatever I need.  So exciting.

Bible Journaling

I was looking for this YouTube and couldn't find it on Sandy Allnock's videos.  What a surprise to find it on the first post on this blog.  Only GOD...

Called to Action

...been way too long since I've blogged...

As of today, I've watched nearly 20 YouTube videos of people making masks. It occurred to me more than three weeks ago to share the first video that I watched but for whatever reason hesitated. I will share it now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueWkAuY3k6Y The Turban Project

I liked this. I could do this. So I tried and they didn't pleat well.

Then I watched Jenny who always has great tips and I like her a lot. Love it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kwFaRFHKhY Missouri Star Quilt Company   Same measurements.

So this youtube has the pocket & nose wire & I combined all three to make my masks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCJcE-r7kcg&t=308s Easy to Sew

I'm good to go. Cleared off the dining room table of all the paper stuff that I had been making before.
Brought out my cutting mat, rotary cutter, flannel that I had 'collected' along with other random pieces of fabric. I began cutting. Praying all the while that I could make the process of making a mask simple, efficient:using what I already had. If you know me at all, I have no shortage of fabric or paper or paint or stamps or... Anyway, each time I made one, God showed me that doing it this way would be better.

So I concluded that I should:instagram/facebook, send out an email to my Threads of Hope/ Inspired Hands group in case they were interested in joining others to make masks. One response was a request for hospital coworkers. First assignment. Awesome. Finished 11 yesterday and had prepared last night 13 sets ready to sew.

Then I saw on facebook this morning another Mask youtube--different style altogether and she shared a lot of info about the right and wrong things to use. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fySsaOojEVM&t=9s The Fabric Patch.

Will try the pattern and it may be easier, not sure. Got up this morning thinking about the old dryer sheets that I have a lot of but never used. What if I poured hot water over a bunch to get out the fragrance? Did just that and found that there's a whole bunch of something in those sheets. Rinsed the water, squeezed out the suds and rinsed again. I have them drying on a towel and I think they will be fine as an insert or 'interfacing' on the shaped masks. She also has another youtube that shows how you can use ties=grosgrain ribbon, twill tape, or even shoelaces if you do not have elastic. There's a shortage these days even on Amazon. I found a couple of hairbands that can be cut up. God will help us to be creative and use what we have.
I will post again tomorrow. (If I don't get side-tracked and watch more youtubes. I think I will stop for now. #gratefulgramma808
